Support and stability
Soft cushioning can make the first step feel pleasant, but arch fatigue is often about how much work your foot has to do to stay stable. If the shoe collapses, twists, or feels narrow under the midfoot, a softer ride may not solve the problem.
Why soft can still feel tiring
A shoe that compresses too easily can make your foot search for stability with every step. Over time, that can feel like arch soreness, midfoot fatigue, or a sense that your foot is working harder than it should.
What to compare
- Midfoot support under the arch area.
- Heel stability when you turn or walk faster.
- Platform width and whether the shoe feels wobbly.
- How much the shoe twists when you move through a step.
A useful try-on test
- Walk for several minutes instead of judging the first step.
- Make a few turns and notice whether the foot has to brace.
- Take a few brisk steps and check whether the arch feels supported or strained.
- Compare the shoe with the socks and insoles you actually use.
For arch fatigue, do not chase softness alone. Look for cushioning that is paired with enough midfoot and platform stability.
